About Us

Kids Ranch helps the areas most vulnerable young children, 6-10 years old, develop self-respect and respect for others and the environment. Our early intervention and prevention program accomplishes this by connecting children with caring community volunteers, focusing on literacy and teaching the values of compassion and non-violence. Kids Ranch has two distinct components: a Summer Day Camp, June-August and a School Year Literacy Program, Sept-May. The area Kids Ranch serves is over 850 squ. miles and includes four Sauk Co. school districts: Baraboo, Reedsburg, Sauk-Prairie & Wis. Dells, and the Ho Chunk Nation. The children, we server are often facing adult challenges including: extreme poverty, homelessness, death of a parent or guardian, substance abuse, incarceration, food insecurity, divorce, physical, sexual or emotional trauma, depression, anxiety and bullying. These challenges can inhibit a child's ability to learn and become literate. Kids Ranch addresses both the emotional and the educational needs of the children we serve through our programming. We employ mental wellness professionals, an art therapist, a naturalist and and an education coordinator. We use horse and animal therapy, practice yoga and mindfulness, hike, garden, use clean eating and good exercise/play habits and share relevant resources with families whenever possible, in an effort to address the needs of the whole child. We use a right brained, science supported reading technique to successfully aid children who struggle with their literacy. Kids Ranch-building caring, capable, confident kids!
