As long-time Merrimac postmaster, school bus driver, conservationist, county board member, Little League baseball coach, and exceptional folk artist, Roger A. Shanks meant a lot of things to a lot of people, but perhaps none more than to his family. Come join the Shanks family as they celebrate the life and art of Roger A. Shanks during a happy hour gallery opening of the exhibit "Roger A. Shanks--From the Heart of Lake Wisconsin" on Saturday, April 16, from 3 to 5 PM in the Ochsner Gallery of the Tripp Heritage Museum, downtown Prairie du Sac. Admire the intricate hand-carved figures, waterfowl, and early pencil sketches of a man whose skill was ever-evolving. Exhibit highlight: a hand-drawn map of the town of Merrimac, circa 1930s, outlining family names and houses. This event is free and open to the public. Appetizers and beverages served. Whether you knew Roger and the community of Merrimac he cared deeply for or are new to his life and art, make this exhibit a stop on your way out to dinner and be sure to leave with something really interesting to think and talk about.
